MiC is actually really good! I’m enjoying it immensely, the onli thing is that you get those moments every once in a while where you stare out into space and think “uhhh…” but otherwise good!

Egs.

- looking up organisations for walking groups, being there when they meet the coordinators in other areas, promoting at the GP, designing a poster

- updating the older persons and people with a disability card (harder than it looks! lots of internet searching and reading pamphlets)

- surveys surveys surveys!! haha i met someone from highschool at his doorstep, wat a small world!!

- met a 9 yo girl in one of the programs who has no father, mother passed away recently, currently lives with her older brother who’s not at home sometimes, and yet she still manages to play and be happy, albeit a lil more cheeky

- visiting other community centres to hav an idea of how to run our new one

Its such a big eye opener; I didnt even realise how many community groups exist!! the real challenge is linking and infosharing between the groups and promoting them to the community. And Ive got to start looking around where i live considering i hav not heard of ANY groups and services there at all, to find the people saying ”what!? compared to here they have plenty!!”… relli? lol

There are so many meetings! but its interesting to see the dynamics of the group, sometimes its mostly residents whereas in others its all businesses, some groups are very productive whereas other groups kinda sit back and its a challenge getting them involved. And the free biscuits are always yummy! ^^

I think that one of the problems about the community services in the area is that they don’t get out enough word of it, there is little advertising despite the effort, and not everyone knows of wat’s goin on. For example, although they send out word to the local newsletter, the newsletter is not being sent out to all residents in the suburb which has been an ongoing issue that has been dragging and extremely hard to chase up.  And the system is complex and not established, eg. there isn’t a central place for advertising that residents relli go to (for anyone who has seen Minto Mall they would noe its very much a hole with little attraction), there is a new centre called the Hub opened recently which is being used as a drop in centre for advertising services, but is not recieving visitors and it hasn’t been officially launched yet so ppl don’t know about it, and in order to establish it before launch they need volunteers to actually stay there and run the place, which comes to the issues of “where can we advertise for them?” and also registering as a volunteer organisation, which for some reason is taking SUCH A LONG TIME TO PROCESS… But i guess in general what ive come to  learn is that although it gets frustrating when all your ideas come to a standstill, there are so many other things going on at the same time that it comes to a case of “put things down and focus on another project”

Oh n who’s going to the Halfway dinner? Its likely I’ll b going with my sister =)

Welcome to our space!
We are five little people walking in the footsteps of giants.
So join us as we try to fill the shoes of generations of medicos before us, as we learn about what we know we know and also what we know we do not know.

I will leave the others to talk a little about themselves if they wish. :)
